Russia - Can You Believe It?

It's March and I am almost organized for my trip to Russia. I knew I had been selected for this State Department program last June and thought March was a long way off - time sure flew. I spent a weekend in October with sixteen Russian teachers - I learned so much. I found out the end of January that I will be visiting Nina in Nizhny Norgorod. This city is the fourth largest in Russia and between 1932 and 1990 it was called Gorky.

I loved this column, truly a fascinating glimpse into what sounds like a very wonderful people. I am currently conversing with a young potential mate living in Dalniy, Nizyny, Novogorad (forgive the spelling)She sounds absolutely home grown and with a refreshingly naive, simple, yet very intelligent view of life. I am originally from Regina Saskatchewan Canada, now living in California. I had a failed marriage : ( . I like to think it would not have failed had the marriage not been so money focused. I find this to be very prevalent in the US disappointing to me. I am looking for a more country girl personality. Like ND or Sask. I understand life is not full of bubbles of people whom fit these bills. However the difference between people of California and Saskatchewan is immense when all things are considered. So having been single now for 3 years living in California, I said I would not marry another American with the same kind of keep up Jones personality. I am a simple man happy to live in a simple home with simple amenities. Family, friends, and a solid good community you know is grown from the heart is most important to me. I love the life of the typical Russian man/woman as you described. It sounds to me like they are transitioning to the modern age at a rapid pace while still holding values important to them. My potential mate Elena and I have been conversing via email for approx. 3 months now,,everyday. She says she is going to an internet cafe? She also states she feels most Russian men are on the frivolous side and not looking to the future. She states there is much alcohol and drugs in the society and doesn't want anything to do with that. I would love to converse with her via a telephone, although she has not asked for any money during our last 50 letters or so(or ever. I'm wondering if I sent her an old apple iphone or some money if she would have access or ability to make it work, to call me. Perhaps an simple notebook, Ipad or other. Is there wifi hotspots or other ways she could communicate simply. In your estimation, is this person for real? I have an address for where she works and lives, but how can I tell if I'm not being scammed by some person looking to make a buck,,Your thoughts to me would really be appreciated. I have also done my homework on this end,,and traced her emails,,she is indeed sending them from Novo in Russia. Why the prevalence of young females wanting to make there way to the USA,, I am waiting for your response and knowledge. Please send to my email ucmeray@gmail.com Thank-you so much and good for you doing what I say is Gods work,,you, your colleagues friends are living a very fulfilling life, I thoroughly enjoyed the last few hours reading your articles...Please respond Ray
